Elul 23 ~ Gershon Baskin ~ The Path Forward

For as long as I can remember I have been an advocate for peace between Israelis and Palestinians. As an Israeli Jew, much of my life has been dedicated to initiatives aimed at fostering dialogue, understanding, and cooperation between our two peoples. My approach is deeply rooted in empathy and a steadfast commitment to finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

When asked about the current situation, I prefer to focus on the shared human experiences of trauma, loss, and the universal desire for safety and peace. It’s crucial to acknowledge the pain on all sides and to recognize the mutual suffering that has been endured. No matter where one stands politically, the only path forward lies in compassion, understanding, and a collective commitment to ending the cycle of violence.

I strongly believe that both Israelis and Palestinians must recognize each other’s humanity, apologize for past wrongs, and work together toward a future where violence and trauma are no longer part of our daily lives. It’s not about assigning blame, but rather about finding the courage, empathy, and shared vision necessary to achieve lasting peace.

The urgency for peace cannot be overstated. We must act now, not tomorrow or in some distant future. The time for understanding, healing, and building a shared future is today. Waiting only prolongs the suffering.
